Planning an Aruba Wedding: Other Considerations
One of the perks of a destination wedding is that the planning process is nearly stress-free. When planning a wedding in Aruba, you will have a travel specialist and a wedding planner to sort out all the details. Of course, as with any international vacation, planning a wedding in Aruba comes with a few unique considerations. Before jetting off to say "I do", be sure to research the following with your Wedding Specialist:
Aruba Marriage Requirements:
Most destination couples legalize their marriage in their home state and hold a symbolic ceremony with friends and family in the locale of their choosing. However, civil (legal) weddings are also possible in Aruba. If you wish to legalize your marriage in Aruba, you will just need to fulfill a few requirements in advance. These include, but are not limited to:
- Copies of a valid passport for both members of the wedding couple.
- Two witnesses, with valid passports and at least 18 years of age, to stand at the ceremony (if you're eloping, your resort may provide these witnesses for you).
- Long-form birth certificates for the couple, with a raised seal.
- Other documentation, including a Certificate of No Impediment and Declaration of Marriage Intent, which must be faxed or emailed for review, and sent by mail or courier, at least one (1) month before your wedding date.
Marriage requirements in Aruba will vary, depending on the type of ceremony you wish to hold – religious ceremonies and civil weddings, for example, have different requisites. A Destination Wedding Specialist can help you determine what is needed to make your marriage official and help prepare the required documentation prior to your arrival in Aruba.
Your Wedding Date:
Aruba is nestled in the southern part of the Caribbean, well outside the region's hurricane belt. This makes it a top destination for year-round travel and leaves more "wiggle room" for your big day. Unlike other areas of the Caribbean, there is very little threat of tropical storms in Aruba. Most months promise sunny weather and temperatures averaging between 80 and 90 degrees, with constant trade winds keeping everyone cool. However, there are certain times of year that are more budget-friendly for couples tying the knot.
The best time to get married in Aruba is between April and August – the island's shoulder season – when resort costs are at their lowest. You can also find discounts and affordable room packages in the early fall. While January through March is known for the best weather, room prices are often higher
during this time.
Safety Considerations:
Aruba is known as "One Happy Island" for a reason. Its friendly and helpful locals, on top of its warm hospitality, have contributed to Aruba's nickname. In addition, Aruba features one of the lowest crime rates in the Caribbean, which means you can explore the island's wonders – such as secluded beaches and off-site tours – with more peace of mind.
