Many couples choose to get married in Costa Rica during the shoulder months (May and November) because it’s cheaper and quieter, but also not during peak hurricane season.
Costa Rica has two main international airports that serve travelers heading to its top wedding destinations: Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José and Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) in Liberia.
For those planning a Costa Rica destination wedding in popular areas like Manuel Antonio, Jaco, or the Central Pacific Coast, SJO is the best choice, with drive times ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the location. If your wedding is in Guanacaste, Tamarindo, Papagayo, or the northern Pacific coast, LIR is the more convenient option, with resorts typically 30 minutes to 1.5 hours away.
Once you arrive, transportation options include private shuttles, rental cars, and domestic flights to smaller regional airports. With frequent flights from major U.S. and Canadian cities, your Costa Rica wedding will be easily accessible for you and your guests, no matter which airport best suits your destination.
