The Love Story
Katie & Alex met in 2014 after they both returned home from being overseas. They met online and connected instantly over their love of traveling and passion for experiencing different cultures. The rest, as she says… is history.
The Planning Experience
Katie's dream was always to get married on a beach in a foreign country. When she presented the idea to Alex, he was all for it! They quickly started looking at flight prices and landed on getting married in Cancun, since it was the most affordable option for their guests traveling from six different states. Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa was the perfect family-friendly venue to accommodate both those who had kids and those who did not.
The Celebration
To personalize their big day, Katie & Alex's 3-year-old daughter, Aaliyah, was their flower girl, who ended up standing with them at the altar and even got to sign their marriage certificate with her fingerprint. During the reception, the couple handed out tequila shots to toast Katie's late father, while playing his favorite song by Jimmy Buffet. When looking back on their destination wedding in Mexico, Katie recalls it being something they'll remember forever. "After such a long and stressful year, it was so nice to be able to get away and relax," she says. "I love that it felt more like a vacation instead of being stressed over the wedding plans."
The Memories
A really special memory for Katie was Alex's ring - "we took my Dad's wedding ring, melted it down and used it to create the band that Alex wanted."
Advice For Future Couples
Their advice to couples planning a destination wedding is to, "enjoy it and trust the people that you have helping you through the entire journey. This is such an amazing experience - so really live it up and just take it all in!"
