The Love Story
Nicholas' strong knowledge of advanced geology topics swept Ashely off her feet! In Spring 2009, Ashley and Nick first met at the University of Illinois on a geology field trip to Arizona/California. It was one of Ashley's first geology classes that covered some tough materials, but thankfully Nick was there to help her out! He noticed she was having some trouble and offered to help. As soon as the trip was over, they started their love story together. Through their 3-year long distance relationship together, to move across the country, their connection was too strong to be apart. Nick officially popped the question in pure romantic fashion during their trip to Iceland near a dormant volcanic magma chamber.
The Planning Experience
It wasn't always on their radar to have a destination wedding, but once they realized it could be a vacation with their family and friends, they were on board! Continuing with the volcanic theme and the combination of gorgeous beaches and beautiful rainforests. Costa Rica was an obvious choice for a ceremony.
The Celebration
Instead of sticking with a traditional guest book, Ashley and Nick went with a globe guest book that their guests signed. Nick's mom also added an artistic touch to their wedding cake topper and created two geodes made to look like a bride and groom. One thing they will never forget was when Nick's best man missed his flight and the ceremony, but he made it just in time to deliver his hilarious speech during the reception. Aside from the sunset sail, the happy couple and their guests went on a trip to the Arenal Volcano. They walked the suspension bridges amongst the rainforest canopy, enjoyed a boat ride on the Laguna de Arenal, and relaxed at the Tabacon Hot Springs.
The Memories
The sunset sail on the Pacific Ocean had to be the most beautiful and memorable part of their celebration in paradise. It gave everyone a chance to mix, mingle, and enjoy the stunning views of Costa Rica. They sum up their destination wedding experience as "unforgettable, family, and celebration." They enjoyed every second of it!
