Legal Requirements for Getting Married in Mexico
In order to get married in Mexico, there are some legal guidelines you must follow. You must present your tourist card when you apply for your marriage license, and you must be married in a civil ceremony at a Civil Register Office (or other location, but there will be an additional fee). If you want, you may have a religious or other ceremony later on, but the only legal wedding ceremony is one performed as a civil marriage. In some cases, you'll also need Spanish translations of your birth certificates. Mexico also requires blood tests for HIV and RPR (syphilis) and chest x-rays to be completed in the country – in all, the process from applying for your marriage license to getting married will take about three business days. The cost for a marriage in Mexico is about $200 US dollars.

The only type of wedding that is legal in Mexico is the civil wedding, which may be performed either at the Civil Register Office or a different location if arrangements are made beforehand. However, your wedding need not end there. As long as you have two witnesses to your civil wedding, you could have the legal wedding performed in private, and then have a civil or other type of ceremony in front of your guests. Most Mexican weddings have two ceremonies: the civil and the religious.
