Destination Wedding Etiquette: Save The Dates & Invitations

Save the date, you're having a destination wedding! When creating your save-the-dates and invitations, there are a few key elements to keep in mind. Here are a few guidelines to help you create your destination wedding invitations.

Design

Choose a design that reflects the overall vibe of your celebration. Consider incorporating elements that represent the location, such as palm trees or bright tropical colors. You can also play into the travel theme and recreate a plane ticket or hand-draw a map of the country you're getting married in.

Wording

The wording on your save the dates and invitations should clearly convey the essential details of your wedding. Our exclusive e-save the dates are available as soon as you confirm your wedding date and will include your names, wedding date, location (i.e. country and resort name), and instructions on how guests can book their room with your Certified Destination Wedding Specialist. There is also a space for additional information, where many couples write a greeting or provide information about the dress code, pre- or post-wedding events, etc.

Timing

It's important to give destination wedding guests ample time to plan to attend your celebration. We recommend sending your save the dates about 8-10 months in advance, and your invitations no later than 6 months before the wedding date.

RSVPs

It's important to track your RSVPs and provide a final guest count to your destination wedding planner well in advance of the big day. Our exclusive online Guest Planner not only allows you to keep track of who is invited but also who has booked their room, so there's no second guessing who will be coming to paradise with you.

Travel Details

Travel arrangements are one of the most important aspects of a destination wedding. Give your guests clear and concise directions as to how to book their room and airfare, including your Certified Destination Wedding Specialist's contact information if they have questions or need assistance with the online booking process.

Wedding Website

A destination wedding has a lot of moving parts, and a wedding website is the perfect place to keep all the details of the weekend in one organized spot. Your guests should reference your wedding website for important information such as the itinerary, resort description and map, dress code, etc. It's also a fun place to post photos and messages to get everyone excited to celebrate your love story!
