Marriage Requirements in Iceland

Getting married in a place as magical as Iceland is exciting, but before you can tie the knot there are certain marriage requirements you must fulfill. Those requirements include, legal age (both parties must be at least 18 years old), valid passport, original birth certificate, if either party was previously married, a divorce or death decree may be required, certificate of no impediment, and all documents must be translated Icelandic.

Starting in 2024, U.S citizens will need to apply for authorization through the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) before traveling to Europe. Icelandic is the official language of Iceland, but English is widely spoken especially in tourist destinations and among the younger population.

The flights to Iceland are longer and more expensive from most US and CA vacations.
Wedding packages in Iceland are not all-inclusive, so you'll have to hire each vendor individually (i.e. florist, wedding planner, caterer, photographer, etc.)
