Documents Needed for TravelPlease remember that as of January 1, 2007 clients traveling to Jamaica are required to use a valid U.S. passport (birth and naturalization certificates or drivers license and state issued ID will not suffice as proof of citizenship). Visitors must have a return ticket and be able to show sufficient funds for their visit. LanguageThe official language is English. BeachesJamaica is known for it’s unbelievable white sand beaches. Some examples of famous beaches are Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios. ClimateJamaica enjoys a tropical climate year-round. Yearly average temperature is 81 degrees. It’s two rainy months are May and October. What to WearDue to Jamaica’s tropical climate, lightweight, casual clothing is best suited throughout the year. A light sweater is suggested for evening, especially in winter. Some hotels require casual eveningwear for women, and a jacket for men when dining. Currency and Credit CardsThe official currency is the Jamaican Dollar. Credit cards are widely accepted on the island. Marriage RequirementsThe couple must call the Ministry of National Security before you go, at 1-876-906-4908/9, to apply for your marriage license. The cost of a license is four thousand Jamaican dollars (approximately US$75-US$80).There are non-denominational Marriage Officers who can officiate either at their offices, in their homes or at a place chosen by the couple, and are able to provide witnesses. Marriage Officers charge anywhere from US$50 – US$250. The following documentation is required for couples wishing to get married in Jamaica: 1. Proof of citizenship - certified copy of birth certificate, which includes father’s name. 2. Proof of divorce if applicable (original certificate of divorce). 3. Certified copy of death certificate for widow or widower. 4. Parent's written consent if under 18.
