Mexico is a beautiful country to get married in. Situated just south of the border of the United States, Mexico is easy to get to and has become a great destination wedding and honeymoon spot. Generally, the best time of year to go to Mexico is from October to May, but two periods to avoid are the week leading up to Easter and the Christmas and New Year's holidays, as they are extremely busy times in Mexico. The climate can range from hot and humid to warm and dry, and there is sure to be a spot in Mexico to suit your wedding needs. A visa is not required to enter and stay (up to 72 hours) in Mexico if you are a US citizen, but if you are planning a lengthy stay you will need to obtain a government tourist card for a fee of $20 (usually included in ticket prices if you fly to Mexico). Mexico Wedding Types
The only type of wedding that is legal in Mexico is the civil wedding, which may be performed either at the Civil Register Office or a different location if arrangements are made beforehand. However, your wedding need not end there. As long as you have two witnesses to your civil wedding, you could have the legal wedding performed in private, and then have a civil or other type of ceremony in front of your guests. Most Mexican weddings have two ceremonies: the civil and the religious. The site of your wedding is up to you as well; if you want a small beach ceremony or a festive authentic Mexican fiesta for many guests, DestinationWeddings.com's specialists can get you in contact with wedding planners and resorts to help you plan whatever type of wedding you're dreaming of. Mexico wedding packages are available for all price ranges and wedding styles.

When you think of a Mexico beach wedding, your mind might immediately wander to the beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya. Here, there are 14 miles of white sand beaches, and many different resorts and hotels to choose from for your stay. All of these resorts are within the beautiful expanse of Cancun's beaches, and DestinationWeddings.com can help you plan your on-the-water ceremony. If you choose to have your civil ceremony here, be sure to leave plenty of time - the Justice of the Peace who will perform it will need a reservation at least three weeks in advance. Language barriers should not be an issue in Cancun, luckily, as most officiants (as well as resort staff) speak English.

When in Mexico, there are many different forms of receptions you can have following your wedding. Whether you'd just like a quiet candlelight dinner on the beach with your new spouse or a large reception with all your friends and family, the resorts in Mexico can accommodate any sort of reception plan. Most of the resorts in Mexico are family friendly, so you don't have to be worried about excluding the little ones from your parties. If you choose to have a traditional Mexican reception, you may want to hire mariachis (Mexican musicians) or have your reception at one of the wedding rooms that many hotels in Mexican cities provide for this purpose.

Mexico wedding planning wouldn't be complete without deciding what you're going to wear on your big day. Luckily, no matter what you're planning on wearing, it will be suitable for your Mexican wedding! Some people choose to get married in traditional Mexican clothing, which includes a ruffled hem dress and maybe even a mantilla veil for women and bolero and bullfight style clothing for the men. Or, you could choose to wear light cotton clothing, great for a beach wedding in the tropical climate. Don't feel limited by what others have worn at their Mexico weddings, even traditional wedding gowns and tuxes have their place in this destination! Mexico Wedding Guests
If you're planning on having guests at your Mexico destination wedding, keep a few things in mind and you'll be sure to have a great time. Make sure that you send out “Save the Date” cards well in advance, about four to six months before the wedding. This will give your guests plenty of time to make arrangements to get to your wedding spot. Also, contact DestinationWeddings.com as soon as you can to make sure that they can help you with choosing how to book rooms and flights for your guests, and in order to get the best rates available for your time period. Plan a few events for your group, such as an archeology tour or other side trip, but be sure to allow them plenty of time to explore Mexico on their own terms. Have fun!
