Destination Weddings in Cannes
Getting married in Cannes, France may seem like a dream to many people. This small beach resort town on the southern coast of France is known for its luxury and class. A destination for many vacationers from England, Italy and the rest of France, this area is also great for those from the US who might want a different destination wedding. The sandy beaches located here on the Cote d'Azur make it an ideal place for a beach wedding and reception. If you'd like to be in Cannes when the film festival is in town, make sure to make your plans well in advance. The film festival takes place yearly in May. Your DestinationWeddings.com specialist will be happy to help you arrange for your wedding as well as a place to stay and play.
Destination Weddings in Paris
Saying "I do" in Paris – could anything be more romantic? If getting married in this beautiful city is your dream wedding, there are many different areas of Paris that are available to use for your wedding ceremony. If you have your heart set on getting married on the Eiffel Tower, unfortunately that won't be possible. No events (proposals are ok) other than commercial ones may be held on the Eiffel Tower. A destination wedding specialist can help you to choose a resort or hotel that would be perfect for your wedding, and you would still be able to pose for pictures and see the sights of Paris on your dream marriage day.
Destination Weddings in London
Having your wedding in London can be a great compromise to a destination wedding. You already speak the language, so you don't have to worry about the barriers that may arise if you get married in a non-English country. London has many different shops and resources available for you to get prepared for your wedding. London also offers some interesting locations at which to get married – including the London Zoo! Same sex partners are also able to obtain a civil union here, but it may not be recognized in your home state or country. Be sure to check with any departments before counting on having a same sex marriage. DestinationWeddings.com has many specialists available to help you get in contact with the best wedding planners in London, so that you can create your dream wedding.
Destination Weddings in Marbella
Marbella is a beautiful Spanish town located in the province of Andalucia. It resides on the Costa del Sol, and is a perfect spot for that exotic European destination wedding that you've been looking for. There are many beaches in the area, as well as historical buildings and other spots. Marbella is a vacation destination for many of Europe's wealthy citizens, and the gorgeous hotels and resorts make for a great destination wedding spot. Another good point about Marbella is that it is right near Gibraltar, a small island on which the marriage requirements are lenient and ceremonies are performed in English. This can be an easier spot to get married, and then you may honeymoon in Spain.
Destination Weddings in Other European Countries
There are many other European countries that can be used for destination weddings. For instance, you may wish to get married in Italy, among the ancient Roman ruins or in the beautiful countryside. You might also want to get married in Greece - a beach or other island wedding can be arranged here as well. Many of these destinations are also the end points of cruises, making them a perfect spot to get married at the end (or in the middle) of a European wedding and honeymoon combination. DWT specialists are able to connect you with wedding planners all over the globe, so let your imagination go wild! Picking where to have your wedding is only limited by your dreams.
Marriage Requirements in England
If you are planning to get married in England, there are quite a few rules you must follow. First, you must be 18 or older. If you are old enough to get married in England, you must: give your birth date (birth certificate if you're under 23), your name and address, and any pertinent divorce papers showing that your divorce is final. When choosing a location to get married, England is very specific as to where you can get married and who can marry you legally; you'll want to check that the place you want to hold your ceremony at is an approved premise. Finally, you'll need to reside in England for seven days before applying for your marriage license – then you'll have to wait 15 days to get married after putting in your paperwork. You'll need to plan for this length of time, so your marriage and honeymoon in England could take up to a month.
Marriage Requirements in France
To get married in France, you'll have to really plan ahead. One member of the couple must live in France for at least 40 days before the wedding can take place. You must also publish the “banns” at least 10 days before getting married (one party can do this after 30 days of residence). You'll also need this hefty list of documents: a passport, a copy of your birth certificate (less than 3 months old), a certificate of celibacy, an affidavit of law (understanding of French marriage laws in US), a medical certificate proving you've had an exam within the last three months and finally, proof you've been living in France. You will want to be in contact with a wedding planner and other officials in France before deciding to get married in this country.
Other European Marriage Requirements
Here are the marriage requirements in some other countries: Spain: You'll need to reside in Spain for 21 days, as well as completing paperwork and having a valid passport and birth certificate. These requirements are for a civil marriage. Italy: There is no waiting period, but you will have to have valid Italian translations of your passport and birth certificate, as well as filling out two papers: the Atto Notorio and the Nulla Osta (these are done at the US consulate). Greece: You need your birth certificate and Certificate of Non-Impediment (translated into Greek, which can take 21 days). There are no residency requirements.

Please Remember:

Destination weddings take considerable planning and research, and the best properties & accommodations often book far in advance of the wedding date. The earlier you begin planning your wedding, the greater the likelihood you will be able to book the perfect property for you and your guests.
